WIC Nishan Dialogue on Digital Civilization held in Qufu, Shandong

The World Internet Conference (WIC) Nishan Dialogue on Digital Civilization opened in Qufu, Jining city, East China’s Shandong province, on June 26. The Nishan Dialogue is the first thematic event held by the WIC as an international organization. Zhuang Rongwen, Minister of Cyberspace Administration of China and Chair of the WIC, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. Lin Wu, Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shandong Provincial People’s Congress, and John Hoffman, CEO of Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Governor of Shandong province, attended the opening ceremony and gave a speech at the main session. The opening ceremony was moderated by WIC Secretary-General Ren Xianliang.

After the opening ceremony, guests held discussions on such topics as "Building a Secure and Trusted AI", "AI Empowering Industries", and "Where Human Civilizations Go in the AI Era", in a bid to explore the value of history and culture in the digital age, enhance international cultural exchanges and cooperation, open new paths for the development of AI technology, and promote the development and progress of human civilization.

Zhuang Rongwen attends MWC Shanghai 2023

At the invitation of the GSMA, Zhuang Rongwen, Minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), attended the opening ceremony of the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2023 (MWC Shanghai 2023), delivered a speech and toured the exhibition area on the morning of June 28.

In his speech, Zhuang Rongwen said that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the development of science and technology in the field of information and stresses the need to jointly explore new technologies, new formats and new models, and explore new growth momentum and development paths. This fully reflectes President Xi Jinping's profound insights into the epochal trend of the information revolution and his sincere wish to join hands to promote global scientific and technological development. At present, the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation are undergoing rapid changes. The new generation of information technologies such as 5G, AI and big data is developing innovatively, and the trend of digitization, networking and intelligence is accelerating. It has become common aspirations of the international community to seize new opportunities and promote new development in science and technology. Therefore, the international community should pursue win-win development and share the opportunities of the times; seek shared benefits and deepen scientific and technological innovation; adhere to shared responsibilities and build a solid security shield; insist on mutual learning among cultures, make digital civilization prosper, and work together to create a bright future for mutually beneficial and win-win scientific and technological development.

WIC Member Representative Symposium is successfully held

The WIC Member Representative Symposium was held on June 25 in Nishan, China, with the theme of "Confidence & Recovery: Challenges and Opportunities for Digital Cooperation". Entrusted by Chair Zhuang Rongwen, Secretary-General Ren Xianliang moderated the symposium, which was attended by nearly 40 invited member representatives. High-level representatives from GSMA, AICTO, Alibaba, Baidu, China Tower, 360, Pinduoduo, DiDi, IBM, Qualcomm, Cisco, and Intel held in-depth discussions and stated that digital cooperation and technological innovation could create more opportunities for the business community of various countries, and called on all stakeholders around the world to work together and take action to bridge the digital divide, establish and improve international digital cooperation mechanisms, and promote the ethical use of technologies, thus contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

WIC holds the Symposium on Artificial Intelligence

The WIC Symposium on Artificial Intelligence was held on June 26 in Nishan, China. Moderated by Secretary-General Ren Xianliang, the symposium brought together 13 experts and scholars in the field of AI from IBM, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), Bell Labs of Nokia Shanghai Bell, ZTE, Alibaba Cloud, Weibo, Fuxi Institution, Zhejiang Lab, 360, Tencent Research Institute, Yinxiang Biji, and Arm China to share their experience and provide their inputs for WIC’s future work on AI.

WIC organizes a ceremony for the launch and release of the “AI for Social Good” program

The WIC held a ceremony for the launch and release of the “AI for Social Good” Program on June 26 in Nishan, China. The WIC AI for Social Good Action Plan (2023-2025) was released at the ceremony and four action plans were put forward, which includes establishing a global coordination mechanism for AI for Social Good activities, promoting global project cooperation and sharing the dividends of AI technologies, carrying out AI for Social Good training and bridging the global digital divide, and enhancing the global communication and publicity of AI for Social Good activities.

Ren Xianliang attends MWC Shanghai 2023

Secretary-General Ren Xianliang attended the MWC Shanghai 2023 on invitation and delivered a speech at the “Digital Everything: Building Digital Nations” session on June 28. Ren Xianliang pointed out that countries should explore a path of digital transformation that meets their own needs and adhere to the following five common principles: people-centered development, multi-stakeholder engagement, innovation-driven development, secure and orderly development, and win-win cooperation, with an aim to build digital nations. He said that WIC attaches great importance to the best practices of countries in building digital nations, and is willing to offer a platform to further promote experience sharing and win-win cooperation.

WIC Zhejiang Office is officially unveiled

The WIC Zhejiang Office was officially unveiled on June 15 in Wuzhen Town, Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China. Secretary-General Ren Xianliang and Lu Shan, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, jointly inaugurated the office. The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from Zhejiang Province, Jiaxing City and Tongxiang City, WIC member and media representatives. Ren Xianliang said that this is the first representative office formally established by the WIC as an international organization, marking that the construction and development of WIC has begun to bear fruits and move forward.

WIC organizes the Member Day Activity

The WIC Member Day Activity was held on June 15 in Wuzhen Town, Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China. Led by the WIC Secretariat and the officials from Zhejiang Province, Jiaxing City and Tongxiang City, the WIC member representatives visited the "Light of Wuzhen" Supercomputing Center and the "Straight to Wuzhen" World Internet Industrial Park to learn about the current situation and future development trend of the local digital industries and explore new opportunities for the development of the digital economy.

WIC attends the APEC Seminar on Collaborative Transformation and Development of Digitalization and Greenization on invitation

On June 21, Liang Hao, the WIC Executive Deputy Secretary-General, attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Seminar on Collaborative Transformation and Development of Digitalization and Greenization , and delivered a speech at the thematic discussion on "Leveraging the Driving Role of Industry Green Transformation in the Digital Industry". He pointed out that the WIC international organization is willing to build a platform of international exchanges and cooperation to jointly promote the collaborative development of digitalization and greenization.

WIC attends WBBA Shanghai Summit 2023

On June 29, Liang Hao, the WIC Executive Deputy Secretary-General, attended the World Broadband Association (WBBA) Shanghai Summit 2023 on invitation and delivered a speech on the topic of "Bridging the Digital Divide and Contributing to Sustainable Development". He said that the WIC will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with WBBA and other international organizations to jointly promote the penetration of global digital infrastructure such as 5G, IPv6, cloud computing and AI, promote global and regional digital training and exchanges, bridge the global digital divide, and contribute to the achievement of the UN SDGs by 2030.

WIC holds a cross-border e-commerce seminar

The WIC seminar on cross-border e-commerce was held in Beijing on June 30. Nearly 40 representatives from cross-border e-commerce regulators in Hangzhou, members engaged in the sector and the research on related international rules such as Alibaba Group, Pinduoduo, Ant Group, JD.com, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), as well as experts and scholars with solid research foundation and extensive experience in international cooperation in the field of cross-border e-commerce, attended the event and held in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics related to cross-border e-commerce.
