On April 18 - the International Day for Monuments and Sites, Digital Sutra Cave, a participatory museum jointly developed by Dunhuang Academy and Tencent under the guidance of the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), was officially launched. The public can experience the Digital Sutra Cave via the Wechat mini-app of “Virtual Tour of Dunhuang on the Cloud” or the official website of “Digital Dunhuang”. The Cave leverages gaming technologies, such as HD digital photography and scanning, physical rendering of game engine and global dynamic illumination, to vividly reproduce the Cave and the historical scene of the Cave containing over 60,000 precious ancient documents and artworks. It allows the public to travel back in time to the late Tang Dynasty, the Northern Song Dynasty and the late Qing Dynasty to engage in the rich history of the Dunhuang Sutra Cave, and appreciate the value and charm of Dunhuang’s culture and art.
